— Steamboat Springs High School Athletic Director Ken Webbe has resigned from his post, less than seven months after accepting the position.

The Steamboat Springs School Board accepted his resignation Monday, effective immediately. Webbe accepted the position April 1, after previous Athletic Director Richard Lee left to spend more time with family.

Before coming to Steamboat, Webbe worked at Palisade for 14 years, where he taught science and coached track and field.

Reached by phone early Tuesday, Webbe said his reasons for leaving were personal family issues.

He wouldn't go into details.

"Right now, I feel my time will be better spent helping my family," he said. "I will miss all of the wonderful students and parents at Steamboat Springs High School. I want to thank the faculty for their support during my time."

Steamboat Springs High School principal Kevin Taulman said he couldn't comment directly because the resignation was a personnel issue. Taulman said the school wouldn't advertise for the position right away and hopes to fill it in the interim.

"We're looking in the interim for it to be filled internally," Taulman said. "We want someone who knows where we're at."

The position likely will be advertised in March and April for a full-time athletic director.

Taulman said the school was looking at people in the district and across the community who could take the position now.

Until then, Taulman, Assistant Principal Marty Lamansky and others will take over.Taulman said he doesn't have a timetable on filling the interim position but said he'd like to fill it as soon as possible.

"Ideally," he said, "in the next couple of weeks."
