Steamboat Briefs: Yampa Town Board to hear update about electricity

Yampa Valley Electric Association representatives will present an update about the nearly $100,000 worth of power lines upgrades in South Routt County to the Yampa Town Board at a meeting at 7 p.m. today at Yampa Town Hall.

YVEA General Manager Larry Covillo said there have been several outages in the southern part of Routt County and that he and YVEA Board Member Chuck Perry will present the upgrades that have taken place during the past six months.

The board also will consider participating in Regional Transportation Authority working group meetings and begin preliminary Christmas preparations in new business.

USO Ball for veterans planned for Saturday

The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion are sponsoring an old-fashioned USO dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.

It will feature the music veterans listened and danced to during their time of service. It will start with songs from World War II and then move to 1950s and '60s music for Korea and Vietnam veterans. The last hour will feature contemporary music.

The USO Ball is for all veterans and family members. Tickets are $35 per couple or $20 per person. Wear a uniform for $5 off at the door. Profits will go to the Colorado branch of the USO.

Please wear casual dress or a period costume.

Arts Council announces pumpkin carving winners

Steamboat Springs Arts Council announces the winners from the second annual Festival O' Pumpkins pumpkin carving contest. Adults: Cammy Ravenscroft, scariest; Mike Baird, funniest; Josh Miller, most artistic; Wolf Bennett, best of the 'Boat. Children: Aspen Bennett-Manke, scariest; Avalon Thunstrom, funniest; Leah Caragol, most artistic; Zoe Sullivan, best of the 'Boat.
