— For the second consecutive year, the Hayden football team finished its season with a win, pounding West Grand on Friday night, 35-7.

The Tigers got two rushing touchdowns from Jake Walker, two from Treyben Letlow and one from Brian Hoza, running over the Mustangs for their fourth win of the season.

"It feels good," Hayden coach Shawn Baumgartner said. "It's definitely one you can walk away from and feel good about."

Consistent offensive production has eluded Hayden (4-5) for the entire second half of the season, but the team finally found that element in a powerful running attack.

Walker had one of the best games of his career, going for 122 yards on nine carries. Letlow, meanwhile, had 83 yards on 12 carries. Hoza gained 53 yards, and quarterback Graig Medvesk went for 86 on the ground.

"We just lined up in the power-I and ran the football," Baumgartner said. "We were able to move up and down the field, which was good to see. We got that consistency we've been talking about."

The game wasn't ever much in doubt.

The Tigers earned a big, early lead and were up 21-0 by the end of the first half.

West Grand was able to convert a third-quarter turnover into a touchdown, but Hayden poured on two more scores to keep things from getting interesting.

The defensive unit had five sacks, three coming from senior Kolton Miller.

"To only give up one touchdown, that was our defense really stepping up big," Baumgartner said. "A lot of our seniors played really well on both sides of the ball. It was great to let them go out winning."
