Saitta wins ninth title, fifth in a row
Nearly 1,800 runners and walkers took place in Sunday's 28th annual Steamboat Marathon, competing in the full marathon, half-marathon and 10-kilometer races. Parker's Jason Saitta won the marathon for the ninth time, and fifth time in a row.

Golf tournament season is in full swing in Steamboat Springs, and many of the local charity drives still are carting in the greenbacks. Several tournament organizers say they're feeling few negative economic impacts, while others suggest the economy may be driving down participation.

Class notes: Steamboat graduate earns master's from CU-Denver
On May 16, Mark A. Perkins received his master's degree from the University of Colorado, Denver. In addition, the faculty members of Educational Psychology Research & Evaluation program selected Mark as the Outstanding Graduate in his program. He will continue to pursue his doctorate at Colorado State University in Fort Collins in September. Mark is a 1997 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School. He has taught middle school in Colorado Springs for three years and in Grand Junction for three years, as well.
Looking back from June 8, 1934
Henry Haas, general foreman for the Ed Selander paving project in Steamboat Springs, has a crew of 30 men at work hauling rock from the pit on the Stees ranch to the vacant lots on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Seventh Street. Trucks are dumping sand and gravel into the huge depression on this vacant property. The crusher will be installed there, and the mixing will be completed at this point for the entire project. There will be about 70 men employed as soon as the work is well under way.
4-H members discuss challenges of raising pigs
