The Soroco High School girls basketball team dropped its 10th consecutive game to North Park on Friday night, losing on the road, 49-40.
It was the Rams' second loss this season to their Walden-based rivals. Still, Soroco coach David Bruner said he saw improvement from his team.
"I was really pleased with our defense," he said.
The Rams hung with the Wildcats through the first half and were within one point in the third quarter. A seven-minute scoreless streak sank any hopes of a win. North Park took advantage of the lapse and turned a 25-24 game into a 40-24 rout.
"We played well for 25 minutes out of the 32," Bruner said. "That was too big of a gap, and we couldn't get back into it. That's just from inexperience and the kids being so young."
Sarajane Rossi led Soroco with 18 points Friday. She also led the way Thursday as Soroco beat the Moffat County junior varsity team, 36-32. Rossi scored 12 in that game.
The team is now 5-5 this year.
Boys add a pair of wins
The Soroco boys basketball team beat Moffat County's junior varsity team, 64-46, on Thursday night, but that proved to be only an appetizer.
The Rams devoured North Park for its main course, wrecking the Wildcats in a 58-21 stomping Friday while improving to 9-1 on the season.
