The Steamboat Springs Optimist Club is accepting applications for its Teen of the Month program. Area high school students and those interested can pick up applications from their school counselors or by calling Rob MacCarthy at 871-7179. The program culminates in a May recognition dinner for all the recognized teens and a scholarship for the Teen of the Year.
Bud Werner Memorial Library is planning a dedicated space for a rotating teen art display, and is holding a Design the Logo Contest for the display. The contest is for Routt County teens only, in sixth grade and older. The creative logo should incorporate the name "MYART" in the design, which must be original, hand drawn and/or computer-generated, in color or black and white. Designs must be received by Jan. 16.
In conjunction with the contest, the library is hosting a logo-design workshop with graphic designer Christine Borden, at 4 p.m. Wednesday and Jan. 14 at the library. All area teens are welcome.
The American Legion Post 44 is providing transportation to VA medical centers in Grand Junction and Denver, and to the VA Clinic in Craig. The Steamboat Art Museum is looking for volunteers to help in its gallery and gift shop areas. Volunteers typically work two-hour shifts on a weekly basis. Flexible scheduling opportunities are available. Call 870-1755 for information.
