The rest of MusicFest is a private event and is sold out. Tickets are sold as a group ski vacation months before the event by the Austin, Texas-based company Dickson Productions.
Ski Jam festival

Tickets to Ski Jam concerts are on sale to the general public through Steamboat Central Reservations at 800-922-2722, 879-0740 or online at www.steamboat.com/concerts. Full festival passes are available at www.skijam.net for $39 until Tuesday and are $49 after Wednesday. All concerts are in the Steamboat Music Festival Tent in the Knoll Parking Lot. Aprés-ski concerts featuring The Gougers and The Magpies will be held at Bear River Bar & Grill in Gondola Square at 4 p.m. Jan. 13 to Jan. 16. The festival is presented by Dickson Productions.

Steamboat Springs — The northern half of the Steamboat Ski Area’s Knoll Parking Lot will close today and will remain closed through the end of the month.
The Knoll Parking Lot will be home to dozens of musical acts in the next four weeks, as the 24th annual MusicFest at Steamboat, the sixth annual Ski Jam and the fourth annual Steamboat Family Snow Festival take their places in the 14,000-square-foot Steamboat Music Festival Tent.
Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. spokesperson Loryn Kasten said the parking lot is expected to open again Jan. 31. She said a redesigned Meadows Lot hopefully will alleviate any pressure on parking availability caused by the festival tent.
“Redesigning the Meadows Parking Lot did allow for more parking spots. That helps us throughout the year but especially during these festivals,” Kasten said.
Country music stars such as Robert Earl Keen, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Charlie and Bruce Robison and Jason Boland will perform for the sold-out private portion of MusicFest, a group ski vacation booked by the Austin, Texas-based Dickson Productions.
That festival offers a few public performances, including a free concert in Gondola Square by Jack Ingram at 1:30 p.m. Friday. For the festival’s two individually ticketed concerts, Pure Prairie League performs with Cory Morrow on Jan. 10, and Reckless Kelly plays with The Gougers on Jan. 11. The concerts will be held at 7 p.m. in the Steamboat Music Festival Tent.
Kasten said Ski Corp. would like to see a repeat of the spike in business that often comes with the arrival of MusicFest.
“It is a busy weekend, so we’re hoping that the concerts will definitely generate some additional ski business, but people coming out for skiing or for the concerts is a great thing,” she said.
Routt County residents and visitors also will have access to bluegrass, folk and jam music mainstays such as Sam Bush, The Wailers and Todd Snider in the coming weeks as part of Ski Jam. Evening concerts are Jan. 14 to Jan. 16. Tickets are available for each show in advance or at the door and are $15 to $20.
The Ski Area closes out the first part of its winter concert offerings with performances by alternative pop rock band Smash Mouth on Jan. 17 and teen TV star Mitchel Musso on Jan. 18 as part of the Steamboat Family Snow Festival. The Charlie Daniels Band will perform at the tent Jan. 19, the night before Cowboy Downhill.
The Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series starts March 7 with a 3 p.m. performance by Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band. For more information about the Ski Area’s winter concert offerings, go online to www.steamboat.com/concerts.

I know all the tourists from Texas and Oklahoma love their country-rock. And I know the man with the gold makes the rules. But would it be so flippin' hard to bring in a band with a little buzz? Maybe some originality?
I bet for what they are guaranteeing Smash Mouth we could book two or three decent bands. Arcade Fire? Vampire Weekend? Fleet Foxes? Justice? k-os? Santogold? The Cool Kids?
This resort could use a little street cred.

Ditto here…. I might be older than you, but I still keep up with new music. I do not recognize any of those bands. Do any of them have an actual hit???
Not to denigrate your choice of music, but the Music Fest must keep some name recognition to bring in the people.
