After a slow start on Friday at West Grand High School, the Soroco High School boys basketball team rebounded for a 49-30 win against the Mustangs.
Soroco, trailing 10-8 in the first quarter, used a 26-0 run to open up a huge lead.
"We were extremely good on the defensive end," Soroco coach Sam McLeod said. "We didn't want to push too much. We're saving a little energy for the trip" today.
That trip includes a four-hour bus ride to Paonia.
McLeod said Soroco (11-3 overall) can't overlook Paonia. Despite a down season for the Eagles, McLeod said Paonia presents lots of problems.
"I think Paonia is a dangerous team," McLeod said. "They've had a rough year, but they've got good athletes, and I think their season is due to frustration. They're certainly capable of playing good basketball."
The two teams meet up at 4 p.m. today.
Results for the Soroco girls basketball team were not available at press time.
