Local continues lifetime of work in alternative fuels

In Fred Robinson's auto repair shop near Stagecoach, items that can run on alternative fuels abound. There's the H2-H2, a Hummer Robinson converted to run off a combination of hydrogen, natural gas, ethanol and gasoline. There's the H-racer, a tiny hydrogen fuel cell car made by Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies.

Harriet Freiberger: Raising our flags in honor:

As we walk down Lincoln Avenue or through the grocery's aisles, enter the bank or leave the library, we'll look around, trying to identify the veterans whom this day honors, they who have stood in this nation's first line of defense.

Gary Hofmeister: Conservative in more ways than one

For those of you too young to remember the stratospheric heights of the value of gold, silver and many precious stones including diamonds in 1980-81, you may want to stop reading now.

Our View: Let's start sharing now

The results from Tuesday's election leave no doubt that Steamboat Springs voters are ready and willing to share revenues from the city's half-cent sales tax for education with neighboring school districts. That sharing should begin immediately.

Betty Leipold: Signal needed

Now that the nightmare at Third Street is almost over, isn't it time we have a left-turn signal to help drivers turning from Lincoln Avenue onto Third?

Stephen L. Rummler: Creation of jobs

Where do jobs come from? We have heard that jobs are created by tax breaks for small businesses. In my experience, as the owner and president of several small businesses, I have never hired anyone because I had more money.

Ken Collins: Obama's success

Back in the early '90s, a young Tiger Woods burst onto the PGA scene. There was lots of hoopla and expectations but also a lot of folks ready to toast him if he failed.

Kay Weinland: Proud of Routt

The historical 2008 Presidential Election is now a memory. Thanks to overwhelming countywide effort and support, the election was a success.

Districts discuss when to start sharing sales-tax revenues

When the time comes for the Education Fund Board to share Steamboat Springs' half-cent sales tax revenues with neighboring school districts, Shane Antyr will be ready. Dylan Roberts: Yes, we did

Tuesday night was not the best night of my life because Barack Obama won the election. Tuesday night was not the best night of my life because Colorado went blue. Tuesday night wasn't even the best night of my life because I accomplished my goals as an organizer.

Janis Noyer: Rest of the story

I am writing to you in response to your irresponsible reporting of a story about my son, Ian Noyer, in the Nov. 6 Steamboat Today about his alleged burglary of a local business and "random act of violence."

Steamboat football falls in opening round of playoffs

Playing on the road in the playoffs against a quality opponent is tough enough. Add in some turnovers, the inability to run the ball or stop the run and a plethora of bad breaks, and the Steamboat Springs High School football team had little chance Saturday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, falling to Pueblo County, 45-21.

Jimmy Westlake: Cetus: A whale of a constellation

Wedged in between the bright star Fomalhaut (pronounced fo-ma-lo) to the south and the glittering Pleiades star cluster to the east is the huge, lumbering constellation of Cetus, the Whale. It ranks fourth in overall size among the 88 official constellations; only Hydra, Ursa Major and Virgo cover more area of the sky. Yet, despite its large size, Cetus claims no star brighter than second magnitude and has only one of those.

Carl Herold: Economic slowdown

How does agriculture fit into these times of economic slow down? Where do you fit into the roll of agriculture? Regardless of how the economy is going, you have to have water, food and shelter to survive. Everything else is frills.
