Steamboat Springs The chance to go low at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club - formerly the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Course - certainly will exist this summer.
Because of renovations and improvements to the irrigation system, the course never will offer more than 17 holes.
Director of Golf Brian Thorne said players will have the opportunity to play another hole to get in the customary 18 if the course isn't too busy, with availability subject to change on a day-to-day basis.
The name change - a salute to the Selbe family ranch - was done to give the course its own personality, Thorne said.
"It's to give ourselves our own identity," he said. "Everything's the same. The name is just different."
The goal of the new irrigation system is to improve the turf and conserve water. Other improvements include more parking and the addition of tee boxes on 14 of the holes.
The course is scheduled to open May 21, but Thorne said that will depend on the weather.
During the construction, Rollingstone Ranch will have a new entrance off of Steamboat Boulevard instead of Clubhouse Drive.
Through the renovation project, the Sheraton Steamboat Resort and Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club will offer reduced rates on course play. Clothing and items with the old logo also will be sold at a 60 percent discount.
Rates during prime season, June 9 through Sept. 15, will be discounted 10 percent.
For a resort guest playing Monday through Thursday, greens fees will be $85. Friday through Sunday will cost $90.
Public prices Monday through Thursday are $120. The cost is $130 Friday through Sunday.
In addition to the golf course upgrades, the Sheraton Steamboat Resort currently is in the midst of a $20 million renovation project and will reopen to guests June 6.

"Everything's the same. The name is just different".........Huh? A 17-Hole golf course seems a bit different. $130 for 17 holes! Craig costs $35 to $40 and you get a cart.

Rollingstone Ranch will be undergoing irrigation updates throughout the 2008 season. Construction crews will be working on one hole at a time, leaving 17 playable holes for our guests and members. Please keep in mind that most of the time we will be able to accomodate groups playing 18 holes. This will be determined on a day to day basis depending on how busy the course is. Many of the holes will also be cart path only during this time. We will be offering a 10% discount on green fees during the season. We apologize for any inconvienence and hope that you will still consider our course during your stay. Please contact the golf shop with any questions or concerns. (970)-879-1391.

Snowysteamboat,
"Because of renovations and improvements to the irrigation system, the course never will offer more than 17 holes."
A quote from the story is causing confusion. Will this course revert back to 18 holes after the work is done?
