Phippsburg line repairs on schedule

Steamboat Springs Repairs to Phippsburg's water supply line are on schedule to allow usage restrictions put in place July 22 to be lifted next week.
Duckels Construction has completed the bypass that isolates the water line under the railroad tracks, and it is looking at installing a temporary line next week that will allow restrictions on water usage to be lifted, said Mike Zopf, director of the Routt County Department of Environmental Health.
"Things are progressing nicely," he said.
After the water level in Phippsburg's only well slipped to 50 percent July 22, the county asked residents to limit their water usage until the leak is fixed. About 120 homes in Phippsburg area are affected.
Thanks to the conservation efforts of residents and recent rainfall, the well is back to its usual level, Zopf said. The conservation order, asking residents to avoid excessive water use, such as washing their cars and watering their lawns, remains in effect until repairs to the water line are completed.
"You can take showers, you can do your laundry, you can wash your dishes - whatever you normally do," Zopf said.
Construction will continue to repair a leak in the permanent water line, even after restrictions are lifted. Affected residents will be notified by reverse-911 calls and by signs posted in the Phippsburg area when water use can return to normal.
Residents with questions should call Routt County Environmental Health at 879-0185.
