Steamboat Springs Keep the ice scraper handy — winter isn’t going away yet.
Routt County residents awoke to snow this morning, and the National Weather Service says the white stuff will continue to fall through Friday before giving way to mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s Saturday and Sunday.
Expect to see snow, possibly mixed with rain, for the duration of the day. The precipitation will be all snow tonight, with between 1 and 3 inches expected in Steamboat Springs overnight. An additional 1 to 2 inches is forecast Thursday, when temperatures will flirt with the 40s. Another 1 to 2 inches could fall Thursday night as well.
A winter storm watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon for the mountains surrounding Steamboat Springs, including Mount Werner and Rabbit Ears Pass. Total storm accumulations of 6 to 14 inches are expected. Gusty winds of 15 to 30 mph will causing blowing and drifting snow as well as dangerous road conditions.
The chance of snow decreases Friday and Friday night.
But there is relief in sight for residents anxious to get on their road bikes or simply enjoy spring weather. Looking at next week, the National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies and temperatures in the low to mid-60s by Monday and Tuesday.
