Power outage sends middle schoolers home early Monday
A power outage forced the closure of Steamboat Springs Middle School on Monday morning. A lightning strike, either at the school or on the power grid, was the suspected cause of the outage, Steamboat Springs School District facilities director Rick Denney said.

Impacts of Saturday's lightning storm linger
The ramifications from an electrical storm Saturday night were still being felt Monday in Steamboat Springs. "This was a freak storm that came in," said Jim Chappell, Yampa Valley Electric Association spokesman. "It really stressed our system, as it would any utility."

Brief outages possible today
There could be some brief power outages today as Yampa Valley Electric Association crews repair the damage caused by lightning throughout Routt County on Saturday night.

David Siller and Giles Charle were released from Routt County Jail on Wednesday evening. The men were sentenced to six months in jail for taking produce from Sweet Pea Produce, but their sentence was reduced to time served after their story caused public outcry across the country.
