Chuck Abbott: Quality at issue

I want to thank Todd Danielson for putting into words what I and many of your readers feel about this columnist in such an insightful, and elegantly expressed manner. Our objections are not so much political as the hateful and Senator McCarthy-like rendition of her writings.

I am responding to an invitation from Christopher Lohmann to express my opinion. I fully support Mr. Stanford's decision to include Ann Coulter's column in the editorial section of the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

Patrick Arnone: Numbers game

I guess the first question that comes to mind after reading "Stick to the Facts" is, are you a statistician? You seem to be very adept at twisting some of the facts to meet your desired outcome.

Sally Claassen: Ritter says thanks

The Ritter Campaign thanks Steamboat Springs for a wonderful opportunity for Bill to meet and discuss issues with a number of residents last Saturday at the Tread of Pioneers Museum and on the Routt County Courthouse lawn.

Terry Malloy: Good versus bad

Letter to the Editor

I thought for a long time that the best way to defeat bad, racist, ignorant or wrongheaded speech was by drowning it with good speech; reasoned, open-minded and thoughtful speech.

Top-notch boating and fishing spur flood of recreation on Yampa River

Sunlight glinted on churning water as kayakers flipped in fluorescent boats. On May 29, crowds of onlookers lined the Yampa River near downtown Steamboat Springs to take in the Paddler Magazine Pro Invitational, a two-part kayak contest featuring a race down Fish Creek in the morning and a freestyle event, or rodeo, in the afternoon.

Watch the river flow

Currents in the Yampa River dictate when it's a good time to kayak, raft or float on a tube. From mid-May to early June, peak run-off sent water surging through downtown Steamboat Springs at a "flow rate" of more than 3,000 cubic feet per second, or cfs, ideal conditions for kayaking.

Dave Shively: A brief thrill ride

You tighten your grip, wedge yourself under your hand, take a breath, tell yourself you're as ready as you're ever going to be and give the head nod. The gate swings open and the bull suddenly explodes underneath you. Three seconds later the ground hits at the same instant the animal's leg, searching for ground, steps on your back and slams you into the landing spot before barreling off : and then you start thinking again.

Are you ready?
