The Gideons have a great idea by trying to get young people to read the Bible. It's full of history and actually a very interesting book to read. It seems natural, with the reputation they have for distributing Bibles worldwide, that they would distribute them to schools. Only why not in Hayden and South Routt as well?

Emma Nichole Marie Lee Coleman, daughter of Rosemary and Michael Coleman of Hayden, was born at 7:07 p.m. Feb. 9, 2005. She weighed 4 pounds and 2 ounces, and was 17 inches long. Her sibling is Taylor Wade Coleman. Her grandparents are John Armour of Vancouver, Wash., Julie Huntley of Yampa, Pam Nelson of Hayden, and the late Rob Coleman.

Keegan Nicholas Veenstra, son of Rachel and Nicholas Veenstra of Craig, was born at 1:32 p.m. Feb. 10, 2005. He weighed 7 pounds and 2 ounces, and was 19.75 inches long. His grandparents are Jack Veenstra, Debbra Veenstra, Dr. John Ilko Jr., and Sally Ilko, all of Craig.

Our View: Make it a quick stop

Robert M. Sexton: Bible is free speech

Our Constitution guarantees the freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Furthermore, it merely states "Congress shall make no law ..." It does not authorize local officials to either prohibit the free exercise of religion nor to advocate any specific religion. Displaying Bibles is free speech, protected by the Constitution.

Judy Duncan: Allow the choice

I am extremely thankful that Bibles are being put in the schools. I am upset that people complain. It seems that with Columbine and all the shootings in the world, everyone would want to see a positive influence in our schools. Even if you don't believe the Bible (which I do), if everyone lived by its principles, it would make this world a much safer and loving place.

Steamboat Springs Nordic skier Marty Smith picked up the team's second state title in as many days, winning the boys' classic cross-country ski race Saturday in Summit County.

Sailors boys cruise to win in league finale

Foul trouble did little to hamper the Steamboat Springs boys basketball team's mission of finishing the league season unbeaten, as the Sailors routed Eagle Valley, 71-49, in Gypsum on Saturday.
