Tread of Pioneers Museum executive director Candice Lombardo calls it "the festival." It's a cornerstone of the museum's year -- its signature event and largest fund-raiser. For 10 years, the Festival of Trees has been a signal of the beginning of the holiday season and a way to bring people into the museum for what is sometimes their first visit.

Bazaar raises funds for artisans
Every year, the basement of the Holy Name Catholic Church fills with the smell of the dried grasses used by African, Asian and South American women to make their baskets. As volunteers unpack boxes full of baskets, purses and small wooden carvings, a bridge is built between them and women thousands of miles away who will never know the wealth or the comforts of the Steamboat Springs lifestyle.
Steamboat debuts film festival
Filmmaker Mike Martin had an idea last year to show off his work and the work of several friends. He threw together a "film festival" of amateur footage and watched in amazement as the seats filled. This year, the Steamboat Mountain Film Festival not only enlisted the help of Warren Miller and the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., but plans are in the works to turn Martin's idea into a real three-day film festival, complete with daytime filmmaking workshops.
