Steamboat Springs The book "Hiking the Boat II" is No. 1 on Off the Beaten Path's list of the top 100 books sold in 2002.
It is the second year in a row the book, written by Diane White-Crane, topped the list.
"It's just a surprise to me because the book holds on for so many years," bookstore owner Leslie Ryan said. "It's pretty incredible."
Another interesting fact to the list is that Montana author Stanley Gordon West, who receives no national promotion and is published by a very small publisher, has two books in the top 11 and four in the top 50.
Ryan said the word has just gotten around locally about him.
"He's a great storyteller. That's the bottom line. I think it just strikes a chord with people," she said.
Also, the third bestseller, "Steamboat: Ski Town, USA," by Tom Bie, didn't come into the store until December 19 and still made it to the third spot.
"What a gift," Ryan said.
