Description: On behalf of the Yampa Valley Sustainable Council (YVSC)* I would like to invite you to a meeting that begins a process that we are committed to and that is to ‘assist in the identification and coordination of our regional environmental organizations. There is a strong need to coordinate these efforts and provide a central entity for Yampa Valley. Other mountain communities such as Aspen/Carbondale, Eagle Valley, Crested Butte and Telluride have already demonstrated the benefits of such “centers for sustainability” and have well-established efforts along these lines’.

I am emailing all of the identified groups/ organizations that are affiliated with environmental /sustainable efforts in the valley. There is quite a bit of energy and new creation going on, which is a very, very good thing. Concomitant with that creation is a certain amount of confusion for the community at large and perhaps some of our funding partners. One of the comments that I hear and I am sure you do too is how are we the same or what is our relationship to each other. Comments such as “ so are you the group doing the (fill in the blank) thing?”

To that end the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, YVSC, would like to start a dialogue amongst our selves as a specific industry sector. The other reason for this meeting is that the YVSC is committed to having a permanent section of the annual Sustainability Expo, (this year it is Sept 19 and 20th) to present to the public each of the organizations and their mission. What that means is that we would like to have each of you be part of that presentation. That would occur on the morning of the Sept. 19th. We will have more information on how that will be structured in the next couple of weeks. We are hoping that the Expo attendees can take advantage of all of us being in one place at the same time to increase their knowledge and perhaps sign up to help with a specific interest group.

So to that end I would like to invite you to a meeting on July 15th at noon at room 113/114 at Centennial Hall.

The reason for the meeting is for all of us to become familiar with each other’s goals and market segment. That way we can learn about who is doing what, what areas are being covered, what areas are not being covered, who might be starting to cover those areas and to identify those areas that are underserved or not served at all.

So, for the meeting on July 15th, if each of you has a one -pager of your mission, programs and future goals- that would be helpful and since there is a possibility of at least 30 of us, we can all present a one minute elevator speech of our organization. The outcome that I see at this point could be that
1. We become aware and connected to what is going on
2. We determine how best to assist each other
3. Determine what format would best serve our ongoing interests?

Outline
12:00- 12:30 elevator speech
12:30- 1:00 what do we have in common, what may appear as duplication, what is missing
1:00- 1:30 next steps

Thoughts? In the interest of not overwhelming all of us with emails, would you please rsvp to me as opposed to ‘reply to all’. I am attaching a list with all of the organizations that I know of. If I have missed someone, would you contact me so I can add them to the list?

The event is geared toward organizations and nonprofit groups rather than individuals and businesses.
